Winners and How I Wish...

I wish I had multiples of myself this month so I could write my NaNo Novel AND write the reviews and my nonfiction, handle the teen drama at our house, cook, clean and do laundry. It would be wonderful to assign each of the "me" clones to a different task. Alas, there is only me, so that's why I'm late on announcing winners. I did email all of the winners but the last one, which I'll do today, and forwarded their names to the publishing company. I also have three packages to mail out from October, and promise to do that soon if the planets all align and my bank account doesn't empty out:)

The good news is I'm over 30,000 words on A Twist of Destiny, my NaNo novel. I have 20,000 words to write in ten days, and it's in my head:) Thanks for the patience everyone.

Since I work in a lab and my specialty just happens to be in firearms ;) I would have to choose Dillingers-Tommy gun. It's a Colt Thompson submachine gun. It fires 45 ACP ammunition w/a 100 round drum magazine, I would have to have alot of these in a bag filled to capacity though;) & it can effectivly shoot a target @ around 160 feet. It weighs approx 10-11 lbs fully loaded. (close to the weight of a gallon of milk) It is also a fully automatic rifle that doesn't need you to continually pull the trigger to shoot ;D

(By the way, my teens are now in love with Stephanie after reading her awesome comment! I think they just want to be around her in case of a Zombie Uprising!)

Hi Merrie! I think I would like an extra shot at life, but then I guess it depends on if I have any regrets or if I was happy with how I lived. If I have any regrets I would hope to remember them so I don't make my second chance a waste. Great review!

Readers' First Romance Novels & Winner

For our The Devil Wears Plaid contest I asked readers:

What is the first romance you remember reading?

I was surprised we didn't get a few more comments on this, but the ones we did get were great. If the person has an active blog I've linked to it from their name. I've also linked to the book if it's not out of print. Thanks to everyone for the great comments! (Scroll, or read, down to the bottom for the random winner of the contest.)

Hmm... I think that would be
The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. It was recommended to me by my grandmother and I've nver looked at her the same way after reading it.

Robin K said...
I think those would be the V.C. Andrews books I read as a tween.

Nancy said...
I would say
Sense And Sensibility by Jane Austen.

Emily said...
The earliest title I can recall is Lion's Lady by Suzanne Barclay, although I'm sure there were titles before then.

Scorpio M. said...
My first romance was probably a YA romance from the Sweet Dreams line but I can't recall the title. My first adult romance was called Wild Wyoming Nights by
Sylvie Sommerfield. It was an old-school bodice ripper, lol!

Martha Lawson said...
Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers!! Fell in love with romances and have been hooked ever since!

Giada M said...
I believe mi first was
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons, a really amazing book.

The first romance I read was The Paper Marriage (Harlequin Historical, 524) by Bronwyn Williams.

k_sunshine1977 said...
it was
A Ghostly Affair by Charlotte Maclay. I was looking for some good ghost stories at the library and saw the word "ghost" in the title, so iIchecked it out....and I haven't been the same since!

strange_candy_reviews said...
The first actual romance novel I read was a Mills & Boon, but I don't remember the title. My nana has always had them and I 'borrowed' one when I was about 12 I think.

SusiSunshine said...
The first romance I can remember...does YA count? If yes it was
Ben Liebt Anna by Peter Härtling. we read it for school and it was super cute. Otherwise I would say Trudi Canavan's Age of the Five series.

Lu said...
Mmmm i think it was "Kringe in die Bos". Its in Afrikaans, but there is a English version as well. Beautiful story and one of my favourites! Here is more on it: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1174043.Kringe_in_n_bos

Today is the release day for Nocturnal, the anthology Kate told us about in her interview last week. Below is a summary of each story. It's actually a really good deal on the Kindle ($4.47). It's a lovely big book at 532 pages! Congrats to Kate on her story:)

But before the war is over, Darius' desire for his mortal companion threatens to erupt - and could cost Mari her life...

"Spark of Temptation" by Jess Haines - Blackmailed into taking a treacherous case, P.I. Sara Halloway is thrust into a demon war. Perfection is overrated. To have a good story, you need flaws in your character, which is what attracts me to spiderman so much. The writers spent all their time creating flaws in the character to present the best story they could produce on how to fix said flaws.

I most definitely love a little romance with my thrill. Pure horror stories do not hold my interest as well. Though I loved them before I started reading paranormal and found out what I was missing. :)

Dancing With Our Contest Winners!

I have randomly chosen the winners of Amazon Queen and The Cassandra Prophecy, plus I've drawn a new winner for the signed copy of Immortalis Carpe Noctem!

First, the winner of Amazon Queen by Lori Devoti is:
Robin K who said...

I do enjoy when when authors use legends and myths in books. They are fascinating and add a whole world of possibilities to books. I also always wonder if parts are real or not.

I prefer historical just slightly more. But it really depends on the book. Some books are made for urban settings.

Robin is a blogger and talented graphic designer. You can visit her at http://intensewhisper.blogspot.com/ and follow her on Twitter here.

The winner The Cassandra Prophecy is:

April Ash who commented:

Depends on what you consider SciFi...if you go by the Syfy channel, all paranormal seems to be there. I guess The Time Machine by H.G. Wells has to be my all time favorite...and both movie versions I've seen were good. I like the idea of time travel, so enjoyed reading this years ago.

April is a wonderful author and blogger. You can visit her at http://romancebooksrus.blogspot.com/ or http://sevensexyscribes.blogspot.com/

The NEW winner of Immortalis Carpe Noctem by Katie Salidas is heatwave16!

The Winner of Our Lovely Fish Is...

What? You didn't know we were giving away a fish? Really? Hmmm....

*snicker* Okay, I had to do something for April Fool's Day. You caught me, there is no fish. Instead I drew a winner for the mass market copy of Demon Possessed by Stacia Kane. The handy Random Number Generator came up with Number 8:

Bookie who said:

My minions need to be big and strong and know how to cook. Sexy and can whip up a meal. Perfect!

I've emailed Bookie and will send her address to the publisher. Thanks to everyone who entered and left their comments expressing what type of minions they would like if they could have them. I didn't give my answer so I will now:

If I could have minions I would make them fairly small and fast so they could clean house, do laundry and catch my cats in the act of peeing, transporting them to the litter box before the pee hits the floor. Wouldn't that be lovely?

Winner of Shadow Blade

I asked the following question for the Shadow Blade contest:
Authors will often write about a supernatural world of their own making or they will base their world on a mythology like Seressia Glass has done. Do you prefer one over the other, or is it the writing and the plot that matters more to you?

You can read all the comments here.

THE WINNER IS #8 Veronica and she said:
I like them both. It all depends on whether the author captures my attention when I first read their books. Great post! I am looking forward to reading this new series!
~Thanks! V

Gentlemen Prefer Succubi Winner!

The winner of a copy of Gentlemen Prefer Succubi is:

Number 16: Anne J

I like paranormal romance, and I much prefer when it is humorous too. That's one of the reasons I'm not a big Twilight fan, the books are too serious for me.

Congrats Anne!

Congratulations to Our Contest Winners!

I determined the winners of the contests for a copy of Veracity and a copy of The Devil in Merrivale by using the random number generator at http://www.random.org/. Below are the two winners, whom I have already emailed. Congratulations, and thanks to everyone for leaving your comments and suggestions!

Veracity Winner:

Melissa (My World) said...
I have to say I thought I would have to read all three of these books in High school when I got there. And to my surprise I didn't have to read even one of them. I was really surprised. I think they were starting to be part of the contraversy everyone talks about so the school stopped before a big deal was made of them.Although part of me wishes I did. This book does sound good!

(Please stop by and visit Melissa at her blog: My World...in Words and Pages.)

The winner of the copy of The Devil in Merrivale:

E.J. Stevens said...
Great giveaway! My favorite mysteries as a kid were the Agatha Christie 'Miss Marple' books. I devoured them. (Everyone should visit E.J.'s wonderful blog From the Shadows!)
